Over 2200 F7A units and 1400 cabless F7B units hauled freight and passenger runs beginning in 1949 into the 1970s and early 1980s. The 1,500-horsepower untis were versatile and could be found handling road freights and branchline locals, as well as passenger trains. Features of this diesel includes a detailed, injection-molded body, five-pole motor with dual flywheels, all-driver electrical pickup, heavy die cast metal chassis, fine decoration, directional LED headlights and Kato magnetic knuckle couplers.
